Elba Cabrera

Waterbury – Elba Luz Cabrera, 73, passed away on Wednesday evening, March 6, at the Waterbury Hospital. She was the wife of Jimmy Rodriguez.

Elba was born August 29, 1950, in Corozal, Puerto Rico, daughter of the late Miguel Cabrera and Maria Matos.

In addition to her husband she is survived by three daughters, Ebymarie Rodriguez and her husband Edgar of Waterbury, Eimmy Rodriguez and her husband Henry of Danbury and Yaritza Rodriguez of Waterbury; three sisters, Gladys Cabrera of PR, Ines Cabrera of PR and Proby Cabrera of IN; six grandchildren, Noslen, Jimmy, Gabriela, Edgar, Paola and Aleimy and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Jimmy Rodriguez, Jr.

Elba Luz was a kind and gentle being with an enormous heart who maintained her optimism and love of God despite the many blows life threw at her like losing her son when he was 15 and suffering two strokes shortly after. She taught her children to be kind and accept God and be independent from an early age. Her children state that growing up Elba made sure they never lacked anything. She was an amazing mother. She was proud to be Puerto Rican. She loved food, music, playing dominoes and most importantly being with her family. Her favorite color was yellow, she loved flowers and stuffed animals. She liked to go shopping, go to the park and just enjoy life but what she loved most in this world was being surrounded by all her family and loved ones. Family was everything to Elba. Her family states that the good qualities they have come directly from her. She was truly an exceptional wife, mom and grandmother and she will be forever imprinted in the hearts of those who crossed her path.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 13, from 10A.M.-12:00 P.M. at the Bergin Funeral Home 290 East Main St. Waterbury. Calling hours will be held from 10:00 A.M. until time of service. Burial will follow in the New Pine Grove Cemetery at 1:00P.M.
