Kenneth H Cleary

March 10, 1981 ~ January 5, 2018 (age 36) 36 Years Old

Kenneth H. Cleary, 36, of Middlebury, CT, passed away on January 5, 2018, surrounded by his family and friends.

Kenneth was born in Waterbury on March 10, 1981, the youngest child of Ann Owens Cleary and James E. Cleary, Jr. He lived the first decade of his life in Wolcott, CT and later moved to Watertown where he attended public schools.

Kenneth was an avid sports fan, having played youth baseball and basketball. From the time he was a teen, Kenneth enjoyed playing billiards and won numerous tournaments. He was also passionate about weightlifting and pushed himself to achieve his physical goals. Kenneth was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees, the Boston Celtics, and the San Francisco 49ers. He could regularly be found checking game scores and statistics, and he loved watching football on Sundays.

Kenneth was a loyal friend, maintaining contact with several childhood friends throughout the years, despite the distance that separated them at times. He was the first to lend a hand to anyone in need and he held confidences without question.

Above all else, Kenneth loved his family unconditionally. He cherished time spent with his siblings and nieces and nephews, and he took tremendous pride in the accomplishments and character of his parents and grandparents.

Kenneth was exceedingly proud of his Irish heritage. He embodied the spirit of the Fighting Irish and looked forward to annual St. Patrick’s Day celebrations with his family. He will always be remembered for his thoughtful heart, his fun-loving humor, his sparkling blue eyes, his contagious smile, and his genuine kindness toward the elderly.

Kenneth was predeceased by his mother, Ann Owens Cleary; his brother, James E. Cleary, III; and his maternal grandparents, Thomas and Irene Owens. He is survived by his father, James E. Cleary, Jr. and his siblings: Sheila Smith and her husband, Richard; Marilyn Cleary; Seth Cleary; Lurleen Cleary; Brian Cleary and his wife, Shawna; Brenda Cleary-Williams and her husband, Darren; and Meghan Cleary and her fiancé, Kenneth Thomas. He also leaves several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, and two godchildren, Anna Thomas and Dylan Polletta; and his girlfriend, Aubrey Heidorn.

The Cleary family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at St. Mary’s Hospital for their quality care and compassion. Sincere gratitude is also extended to Dr. Ionut Anton for his care over the past decade and his unwavering support during this difficult time.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 9 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, at 11 a.m. at SS. Peter and Paul, 67 Southmayd Road, Waterbury; meet directly at church. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
