Waterbury – Zulma (Gutierrez Lugo) Tripp, died Wednesday, August 23, at her home.

Zulma was born October 17, 1939 in Ponce, Puerto Rico, daughter of the late Americo and Fortuna Lugo Gutierrez. She had worked as a seamstress and then as a nurse’s aide at Waterbury Extended Care for many years. She will be remembered for her love of knitting and baking but most especially for her love of family and spending time with them.

She is survived by three sons, Carlos Velez of TX, Fernando velez and Richard Velez, both of Waterbury; two daughters, Maritza Velez and Damaris Bennett, both of Waterbury; two brothers, Americo Gutierrez of PR and Fernando Gutierrez of Waterbury; two sisters, Gloria Arroyo and her husband Heriberto and Carmen Otano and her husband Angel, all of Waterbury; her longtime and devoted companion, Ronald Heady; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Martha Cochiola.

Calling hours are Friday, August 25, from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Bergin Funeral Home 290 East Main St. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 AM at Sacred Heart Sagrado Corazon Church. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
