Waterbury- Mrs. Aida (Moreno) Fontanez, 72, died Saturday evening, October 13, at Aurora Senior Living. She was the widow of Julio Colon.
Aida was born May 12, 1940 in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico, daughter of the late Jorge and Eulalia D. (Cortez) Moreno, Sr. She moved to Waterbury 40 years ago and had been a parishioner of the former St. Cecilia's Church. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted grandmother and great-grandmother who found great joy in caring for her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Rick Fontanez and his wife Magda of Waterbury; her daughter, Martha Ramos and her husband William of Wolcott; her sister, Norma Moreno of Puerto Rico; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, David Rivera.
The family would like to thank the staff of Aurora Senior Living and Vitas Hospice for the loving care given to Aida.
Arrangements: A mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, October 17, at Sacred Heart Sagrado Corazon Church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Bergin Funeral Home 290 East Main St.
