Angel M. Fontan, 72 of Oakville, passed away Thursday evening, August 9, 2012 surrounded by his family at St. Mary's Hospital. He was the husband of Evelyn (Carrasquillo) Fontan.
Angel was born on May 26, 1940 in Santurce, Puerto Rico a son of the late Agustin and Juana (Correa) Fontan. He retired as an Inspector from the former Ross & Roberts, Inc. in Stratford. Angel, who was a lifelong animal lover, also enjoyed working with his hands as a gardener and carpenter making among other things, bird houses. He was deeply loved and highly respected.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, David A. Fontan of Wolcott; a daughter, Lisa A. Fontan and her husband Michael Gaudino of Watertown; three brothers, Raymond Fontan of Watertown, Hector Fontan of Stratford and Jorge Fontan of Waterbury; four grandchildren, Katherine Keenan Fontan, Ryan David Fontan, Miguel Angel Gaudino and Lola Isabel Gaudino and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother and three sisters, Jose D, Fontan, Lydia Velez, Carmen Delia Carrasquillo and Gladys Cabrera. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle.
The funeral will leave on Monday, August 13, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. from the Bergin Funeral Home, 290 E. Main St., Waterbury and proceed to Evergreen Cemetery, Watertown for a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
