Antonio Ribagorda Macatol, MD, 66, of Waterbury, passed away at Yale New Haven Hospital on Thursday, February 11, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Marina (Paglinawan) Macatol.
Dr. Macatol was born on January 13, 1950, in Cebu City, Philippines, to the late Segundo and Rosario (Ribagorda) Macatol.
Including his wife, Marina, Antonio is survived by his children; Dr. Mary Ann Macatol Kumar, of Marlton, NJ; Dr. Anthony Paglinawan Macatol, of Hamden, CT; and Antonio Ribagorda Macatol, II, of Palm Harbor, FL; his siblings, Dr. Fortunato Macatol, of Marietta, Ohio; Socorro Macatol Willis, of Milton Keynes, UK; and Maria Rosario Macatol Estrella, of Bantayan Island, Philippines; his 5 grandchildren; and extended family.
He practiced general, vascular and bariatric surgery for 30 years in the greater Waterbury area. During his retirement he enjoyed volunteering for medical missions to the Philippines.
Calling hours will be held Friday, Feb. 12 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Bergin Funeral Home, 290 East Main St., Waterbury. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Sat. at 11 a.m. at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 W. Main Street, Waterbury. Meet directly at church. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck.
