Waterbury- Ms Barbara A. Merritt, 84, died Sunday, May 27, at the Vitas Hospice at St. Mary's Hospital.
Barbara was born July 22, 1927 in Waterbury, daughter of the late John F. and Anne J. (McEvoy) Merritt. Raised in Waterbury she attended local schools and was a graduate and valedictorian of Sacred Heart High School. She had worked for Florence Cassidy at McEvoy, Inc. and then later purchased the agency. Upon her retirement she sold her business to Martin & Rowland Inc., and worked for them on a part time basis. She enjoyed hiking, photography, painting, knitting and was a nature enthusiast.
She is survived by her sister, Joan M. D'Angelo of Waterbury; three nieces, Margaret Byrne, Barbara Schuler and Frances Neil; three nephews, William Byrne, Ronald D'Angelo and John D'Angelo and many great nieces and great nephews.
Arrangements: Funeral services are Friday, June 1, at 9:45 A.M. from the Bergin Funeral Home 290 East Main St. Waterbury to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception for mass of Christian burial at 10:30 A.M. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Thursday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
