Waterbury- Bertha G. (Giesker) Johnson, 89, of West Main St. passed away on Tuesday March 9, 2010 at Glendale Center in Naugatuck. She was the widow of Philip Johnson Jr.
Mrs. Johnson was born August 15, 1920 in Pittsfield, MA daughter of the late William and Anna (Bullwinkle) Giesker. She was an active member of the Bunker Hill Congregational Church as well as helping with the food bank at the First Congregational Church. Bertha enjoyed square dancing and in earlier years danced with the Nutmeg Square Dancers. She was well known for hosting card parties at her home with her neighbors.
Bertha is survived by her daughter, Dorothea Kirley and her husband Morgan of Waterbury, two grandsons, Edward and Mark, two great grandsons, Steven and Joshua. She was predeceased by her brothers, Frederick and William Giesker Jr.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at the New Pine Grove Cemetery followed by a memorial service at the Bunker Hill Congregational Church, 274 Bunker Hill Ave. at 12:00 P.M.
