Carmen Lugo Torres

WATERBURY- Mrs. Carmen Lugo Torres passed away peacefully at St. Mary's Hospital on Monday, September 9, 2024. She lived and extraordinary life. An immeasurable loss took place as she left our world at 102 years, 3 months and 18 days. She was the wife of the late Luis Manuel Nieves. She was an avid lifetime animal lover and known as the "chicken whisperer".

Born in Penuelas, Puerto Rico on May 21, 1922, Carmen was the daughter of the late Pedro Lugo and Angelina Torres. She came to Waterbury, CT in 1969 where she has lived for the last 55 years.  Her love for her family was unwavering and leaves a huge ancestry including her 7 children, Luis Antonio Barrieras, Iris Montanez, Matilde Torres, Iris Allen, Ector Nieves, Americo Nieves and Luis Enrique Nieves, as well as countless members of three more generations.  Carmen was predeceased by her husband Luis Manuel Nieves and four of her children.

Funeral Services will be at 12 PM on Friday, September 13th at Bergin Funeral Home 290 East Main St. followed by burial in New Pine Grove Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday morning from 10 AM to 12 PM. Visit www.berginfuneralhome.com for more information.
