WATERTOWN ~ Catherine (Cronin) Manning (fondly known as "Kate"), of Watertown passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 7, 2011 at Middlebury Convalescent Home. She was the widow of the late Richard A. Manning.
Kate was born November 18, 1919 in Waterbury, daughter of Patrick J. and Ellen (Burke) Cronin. Sometimes with just a smile and a wink, Kate touched our lives and souls, and her presence was a gift we will always be thankful for.
She was a talented bookkeeper, and retired after 20 years with the A.J Pepe Food Co. Prior to this, she worked at Chase Brass & Copper and Grieve, Bisset and Holland. Kate was an active member of St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Watertown and attended services regularly. She had a fondness for Fenton Glass, cookbooks and QVC shopping. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, shopping and dancing. Above this, the most important part of Kate's life was to be a devoted mother to her only son, Patrick.
Kate is survived by her son, Patrick Burke Manning of Watertown and his fiancée, Dawn Lombard of Monroe. She was predeceased by Ellen Valente, her dear friend and shopping companion for over 60 years.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 8:45 am from Bergin Funeral Home, 290 East Main St., Waterbury to St. John R.C. Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 to 8 pm.
