Waterbury – David I. Schain, 74, of Waterbury, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Waterbury Hospital after a long illness. He was the loving husband of Eileen (Gow) Schain for nearly 40 years. Dave was born on August 26, 1948 in Waterbury, son of the late Albert and Florence (Berkowitz) Schain. Dave graduated from Crosby High School in Waterbury. After high school, he worked for Meldisco Shoe Company as a shoe department manager in various discount department stores throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts for nearly 50 years. Most recently, Dave worked at the Waterbury and Southbury KMarts. After his retirement in 2012, Dave started working at the Bunker Hill Pharmacy in Waterbury. He called it his "dream job" and he enjoyed every day of his ten years there. Dave's greatest joy was his family and cherished the time he was able to spend with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed cooking and baking and spent countless hours searching for new recipes and ingredients to try out. He loved hosting family dinners and showing his love with his food. Besides his wife, Eileen, David is survived by his children, Lisa Schain Higgins and her husband Daniel of Waterbury, Kevin Schain of Waterbury, and David Schain of Nevada; grandsons Lucas and Cameron Higgins, and a granddaughter due next month; his brother Myron Schain and his wife Tracy of North Carolina; father-in-law Harold Gow of Waterbury; brothers-in-law Michael Gow and his wife Colleen of Torrington, and Thomas Gow of Waterbury; sister-in-law Cathleen Havican and her husband Jerry of Waterbury; and two nieces Stephanie Havican Nieves and her husband Christopher of Wallingford, and Melissa Havican and her fiancé Christopher Saunders of Waterbury. Besides his parents, Dave was predeceased by his brother Edward Schain, his sister Wilma Schain and his mother-in-law Patricia Gow. CALLING HOURS HAVE BEEN CANCELLED. Burial of cremains will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at 12:00 P.M. at New Pine Grove Cemetery in Waterbury. Those attending may meet at the cemetery office at 11:45 A.M
