Obituary

Waterbury - Dorothy Marie Harkins entered into eternal life on September 16, 2013 while residing in Waterbury, CT.

Dorothy was born in Kansas City, MO on March 7, 1922, to the late Mary Ellen (Gorman) and Fred Harkins.  She was predeceased by her brother Paul Harkins and his wife Mary Francis (O'Mara) Harkins. Dorothy is survived by two nieces, Mary Sue and husband Chuck of PA, Ann and husband Don of MI; 3 nephews, Terry of TN, Jack and wife Madeline of MI and Bill of CA; four great-nephews; five great-nieces; five great-great nieces; and six great-great nephews.

Dorothy was a communicant of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Waterbury where a celebration of life will be held on Thursday, September 19 at 11:00 A.M. In 1939, she graduated from Loretto Academy in Kansas City, MO, after which she enlisted in the US Navy service as a Yeoman during WWII. She then went on to earn a BS in Sociology from St. Louis University in 1950.  Following college life, Dorothy was granted a direct commission as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Air Force until 1957 with an honorable discharge as a Captain.

Dorothy was then employed as a case supervisor in the State of Connecticut Welfare Dept., and later as a psychiatric social worker in the Mental Health Dept. She was never married and had no children.

After cremation, Dorothy will be buried at Mt. Olive cemetery in Raytown, MO.
