Chatham, MA – Mrs. Eileen (Knauf) Foley, 97, formerly of Waterbury, passed away on Monday, October 24, at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford. She was preceded in death by her husband James (Jim) at the age of 84 in 2000.
Eileen was born in Bronx, New York on June 11, 1919, daughter of Herbert and Florence (Conway) Knauf.
Eileen worked at Scovill Mfg. Co. in Waterbury for 30 years before retiring in 1981 and moved to the Cape in 1989. She was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Church in West Harwich. Eileen took many courses at the Academy of Lifelong Learning at Cape Cod Community College and was an active participant on many committees during the 22 years she attended. She enjoyed working in her yard and tending her flower gardens. She also looked forward to getting together with her friends in book club and movie group on the Cape. More than anything, she cherished the time that she shared with her family.
Eileen was predeceased by her daughter, Kathleen (Kathy) Barlow of Middlebury and her brother, Herbert Knauf of Fort Lauderdale, FL. She is survived by her son, Jim Foley (and his wife Peggy) of Bethany, CT, son-in-law, Jack Barlow (and his wife Debbie) of Middlebury, CT and a sister, Louise Westmoreland of Durham, NC; also survived by four grandchildren, John Barlow of Manhattan, NY, Sean Foley of Bethany, CT, Julie McDonald of Middlebury, CT and Jomo Foley of Waterbury, CT and seven great-grandchildren, Annie, Kate and Will McDonald, Kayleigh and Sarah Foley and Nijhon and James Foley.
Arrangements: A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 28, at 10:30 A.M. at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception 74 West Main St. in Waterbury. Burial will follow in New St. Joseph Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
