Watertown- Mrs. Elizabeth T. (Phelan) Ney, 88, passed away peacefully at Waterbury Hospital on Friday, February 27, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of Charles E. Ney, Sr., having been happily married for 49 years.
Mrs. Ney was born December 31, 1926 in Waterbury, daughter of the late William F. and Mary (Maher) Phelan. Raised in Waterbury, she attended local schools and was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School. A resident of Watertown for the past 36 years, she had been employed at Century Brass and also worked in the Town Clerk's Office for the City of Waterbury. She was a communicant of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem and will be remembered as a loving, strong, and devoted Mother and Grandmother.
As for the simpler pleasures in life, she found enjoyment in casino trips, shopping,
and family dinners. Known as Betty by those who knew and loved her, the more pertinent and personal aspects of her life revolved around the health and well being of her family.
She is survived by six sons, Bill Ney of Watertown, Charles E. Ney, Jr and his wife Sharon of Lancaster, CA, Francis M. Ney and his wife Margaret of Watertown, Patrick J. Ney of Naugatuck, Daniel Ney and his wife Janet of Milford, MA and Rodney Ney of Watertown with whom she resided; four daughters, Rhea Williams and her husband Joe of Pittsfield, MA, Dorothy Ney of Waterbury, Mary B. McClay and her husband Joel of Terryville and Theresa A. Ney of Watertown with whom she resided.
Fourteen grandchildren, Christopher Ney of Wannaque, NJ, Christine Valle and Robert Williams of Pittsfield, MA, Patrick Ney of Middlebury and Daniel Ney of Naugatuck, Amanda J. and Jessica Leigh Ney of Watertown, Jimmy and Kelly Ney of Milford, MA, Brandon and Sara McClay of Terryville, Autym Ney of Watertown with whom she resided, Aaron and Jordan of Lancaster CA. Nine great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews, including Julie Schott (#11) and her husband Jim. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters (Phelan family).
Arrangements: Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 2, from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at the Bergin Funeral Home 290 East Main St. Waterbury. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, March 3 at 11:00 A.M. at the Church of the Nativity 48 East St. in Bethlehem. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
