Waterbury – Eugene P. Buckley, Sr, 81, passed away on Sunday, May 8, at Vitas Hospice. Eugene was born in Waterbury on October 31, 1940, son of the late Francis P. and Helen (Payne) Buckley. Raised in Waterbury, he attended local schools, was a graduate of St. Francis College High School in Biddeford, ME, and attended Hasson College in Springville, ME as well as attending Continuing education classes at UConn and Mattatuck Community College in Waterbury for several courses. He was employed as a Classified Sales Representative for the Waterbury Republican American for many years, as well as several other newspapers in the area. His latest employment was with Heritage Village in Southbury for several years before his illness. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, having served in the Signal Corps. He was awarded a sharpshooter medal while in service. Eugene is survived by, his five children, Bridget Ann Buckley of Terryville, Eugene P. Buckley, Jr (Holly) of Terryville, Bret F. Buckley of Waterbury, Brenda Jean Buckley of Waterbury and Brian M. Buckley of SC; seven grandchildren, Katrina Buckley (Nick) of Wallingford, Brett F. Buckley, Jr (Nataysha) of Waterbury, Francis W. Buckley of Terryville, Marlena N. Cherry (Charles, US Air Force) stationed in Japan, Gena E. Buckley of Terryville, Jacob D. Buckley of Torrington and Savanna E. Buckley of Terryville; three great-grandchildren, Carmela L. Campbell of Wallingford, Bryson Cole Cherry of japan and Zurhi Rayne Buckley of Waterbury; his former wife of 25 years, Marjorie (Divigard) Buckley of Terryville and one nephew, Gerald F. Buckley, Jr of Virginia. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, May 17, at 11:00 A.M. at Saints Peter and Paul Church (Mary Mother of the Church Parish) in Waterbury. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. There are no calling hours.
