Obituary
Watertown – Mr. George S. Demirs, 77, passed away on Friday morning, August 12, at the Waterbury Hospital. He was the husband of Frances (Cambino) Demirs.
Mr. Demirs was born in Waterbury on January 9, 1939, son of the late Xhemal and Sanie (Diko) Demirs. The majority of George's working career was in the automobile business and for the last 25 years he was the owner of Pioneer Wine and Liquor in Watertown. He will be remembered for his distinct character, charming wit, generous and loving heart. He was a great cook, an avid golfer and had been a member of the Watertown Golf Club for over 30 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Nancy Demirs of Plainville and Jennifer Gautier and her husband Francois of Martha's Vineyard, MA; four sons, David J. Demirs and his wife Pamela of Watertown, Kenneth A. Demirs and his wife JoyAnn of Watertown, Chris Demirs of Middlebury and Doug Demirs of Watertown; six grandchildren, Matthew, Jessica, Maia, Julianne, Raelynn and Josephine and many nieces and nephews; two brothers, Sam Demirs and his wife Dorothy of Waterbury and Tom Demirs and his wife Ellen of Marco Island, FL; one sister, Leah Ali of Wolcott; He was predeceased by his son, Peter J. Demirs; two sisters, Nancy Frageau and Bette Mannello and one brother, Al Demirs.
The family would like to thank the staff of VNA of Watertown and the staff of the ICU unit at Waterbury Hospital for the loving care given to George.
Arrangements: Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 15, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Bergin Funeral Home 290 East Main St. Waterbury. Funeral services and burial will be private.
