Obituary

Wolcott - Gordon Vincent "Mac" McKennerney, 85, passed on peacefully on Saturday, January 2, at Wolcott View Manor. He was the husband of Patricia (Dickson) McKennerney.

He was born November 28, 1930 in Waterbury, son of Francis and Catherine (Wendell) McKennerney. Gordon grew up in the Waterville section of Waterbury, and eventually moved his family to Wolcott after building a new home there. Gordon graduated from Leavenworth High School, and served as an apprentice at the Waterbury Farrel Foundry and Machine Company, which started his career of over forty years as a machinist. During the Flood of 55, he was out with other volunteers in a rowboat picking up people stranded in their homes. He was a long time communicant of both St. Michael's & St. Pius X churches. He loved fishing, especially in salt water. He was a long time member of the Waterbury Deep Sea Fishing Club, helping to found the club in 1964. His other interests were boating, camping, clam bakes, picnics and enjoying time with his family and many friends. He was also a skilled mechanic, keeping everyone's small engines, cars and trucks running. Mac was a Chevy guy. He excelled at performing the handyman duties around the house, keeping the home up and running, except for wiring, as he was color blind!  His other skills included driving a cab and a box truck, house painting, siding and roofing, gardening, and mentoring.

In addition to his devoted wife, Gordon is survived by two of his sons, Gordon A. McKennerney and wife Johanna (Grigely) of Simsbury, Michael F. McKennerney, and wife Shelia (Worthington) of St. Albans VT, and a daughter, Susan (McKennerney) Zachary and husband Lee, of Shelburne VT; six grandchildren, Gordon, Judy, Christina, Natalie, Comninos, and Vincent; three great-grandchildren, Zachary, Jacob, and Calla Belle; two brothers, Wendel and Donald McKennerney and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife of thirty-four years, Margaret (Baker) McKennerney, a son, Ronald McKennerney, and a sister, Mary (McKennerney) Mancini.

Arrangements: Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 7, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Bergin Funeral Home 290 East Main St. Waterbury. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Michael's Church in Waterbury. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
