Gregory J. (Kelly) Crotty, 85, passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at Waterbury Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Catherine (Duer) Crotty.
Greg was born on November 17, 1930, in Waterbury, CT and was a long time resident of Middlebury.
He leaves his loving children, Catherine Dodds, of Middlebury; Walter (Donna) Crotty, of Derby; Patricia Klose, Selinsgrove, PA; Eileen (Peter) Fanucci, of Milford; and Thomas (Susan) Crotty, of Hopkinton, RI.
He was predeceased by sons-in-law, David Dodds and Karl Klose, both of PA. He was the loving grandfather of 6, Rebecca, Richard, Andrew, Jennifer, Heather and Stephen and great grandfather of 7, Malissa, Daniel, Alexandria, Madison, Grant, Jackson, and Declan.
Greg was a skilled tradesman, working most of his career at Scovill Manufacturing in the Blank and Draw tool room as a tool and die maker, a profession he loved. He proudly served his country as Army Veteran of the Korean War, was a member of the VFW Post 7788 and a member of the Naugatuck Elks, Lodge No. 967. He served as a volunteer at Waterbury Hospital for 16 years and cherished the many friendships he made with both the staff and his fellow volunteers, who he fondly referred to as "the troops." He was an avid cribbage player, a life-long Notre Dame football fan, looked forward to his weekly duck-pin bowling games at Perillo's Lanes, enjoyed reading, doing his crossword puzzles and spending time with his family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main Street, Waterbury, on Monday, September 19 at 10:30 a.m. Meet directly at church. Burial will be private.
Many thanks to the volunteers and staff at Waterbury Hospital and Vitas Hospice for the amount of caring and compassion they showed to both Greg and his family during his illness.
