Lifelong Yankee Fan

WATERBURY — Harold J. Hughes, "Fuzzy Q. Jones," 75, died Sunday, May 10, 2009. He was the beloved husband of forty five years to Elaine (DePietro) and was a lifelong Waterville resident.
Mr. Hughes was born September 2, 1933, in Waterbury, to the late Harold and Mary (Galvin) Hughes. He attended WilbyHigh School and in the 1950's he played baseball for the Waterville Red Wings, which was a well known team throughout the state. In 1963 he was employed by the City of Waterbury, Street Department. Harold became a dairy manager for Everybody's Market and retired after twenty three years and then spent the last fifteen years working as a crossing guard.  He had a love for music and his favorite singer was Al Martino. Harold's nickname, "Fuzzy" derived from playing as a D.J. at home and making tapes for his friends and family, and it almost always ended with "and the Yankees win!" Besides being a major fan of the Yankees he also was a fan of the UCONN Girls Basketball Team and was in general a true sports fan. Fuzzy liked to work on crossword puzzles as well as being an avid reader, card player and enjoyed watching movies. Harold was devoted to his wife and children and was proud of his Irish heritage.
Besides his wife Elaine, he is survived by four sons, Joseph and his wife Debi of Middlebury, Jim and his partner Rev. Joseph Krasinski of Thomaston, John and his wife Linda of Oakville, Michael and his partner Llina Hilario of Waterbury, a daughter MaryJo Hughes and her partner Bryan Gentile of Waterbury, a sister Patricia Druan and her husband Thomas of Waterbury, eight grandchildren, one great grandchild four nephews and a niece.       Arrangements:  A mass of Christian burial will be on Thursday at 10:00 A.M directly at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Church.  Burial will follow at CalvaryCemetery.  Calling hours will be, Wednesday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Bergin Funeral Home, 290 East Main Street,Waterbury CT 06702 Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
