Obituary
Henry J. Friez, 97, of Watertown, passed away peacefully at home early Saturday morning, January 9, 2016. He was the husband of the late Mary (Hobbie) Friez who preceded him in death in 2009.
Henry was born in Waterbury on March 6, 1918 a son of the late Julius Eugene Friez and Marie Amanda (Gossenbach) Friez. A lifelong area resident, Henry was a graduate of Crosby High School and retired as a Method and Development Engineer and Supervisor of Quality Control with Scovill, Mfg. Co.
Henry always enjoyed helping people as well as tinkering and repairing things. If it was broke, he could fix it. A lifelong member of St. John's Episcopal Church on the Green in Waterbury, he and his late wife were fixtures there. Up until his late 80's, it was Henry's job for years to climb the stairs of the St. John's steeple to change the clock twice a year for daylight savings time. His was the familiar face you saw as head usher whenever you attended services. Henry's presence will be deeply missed.
A devoted family man, Henry leaves his children, Linda Friez of Watertown, Kristan Lanoie of Waterbury, Susan Rustic of Terryville and Peter Friez and his wife Christine of Ohio; grandchildren Stacey Biernat, Seana, Melissa and Amy Friez, Jason Lanoie and Stephanie Priestman and 7 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, David Henry Friez in 2012.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, 16 Church St., Waterbury, CT 06702. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church. The Bergin Funeral Home, 290 East Main St., Waterbury is in charge of arrangements.
