Waterbury- Mrs. Irene L. (Lynch) Owens, 90, a resident of Wolcott View Manor Nursing Home, formerly of Waterbury, widow of Thomas F. Owens Sr., passed away peacefully on November 14th, surrounded by her loving family at VITAS Hospice Care at St. Mary's Hospital.
She was born August 30, 1923 to the late Edward H. Lynch, Sr. and Anna (Lynch) Lynch.
Irene was the valedictorian of Sacred Heart High School, class of 1941 and later attended Post College. She served in the US Marine Corps Women's Reserve from 1943 –1945. She attended Quartermaster School at Camp Lejeune, NC and was stationed at the Quantico, VA headquarters.
She was employed in the Mills Division of Scovill Manufacturing Company and later at Century Brass. Irene was a communicant of Saints Peter & Paul Church where she was also a member of the Madonna Guild.
She is survived by 3 sons, Thomas F. Owens, Jr. of West Hartford, Edward Owens and his wife Margaret of Waterbury, and Joseph Owens of Southbury, and a brother Ronald Lynch and his wife Betty of Gardner, MA. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Edward H. Lynch, Jr. in 1989 and by her daughter, Ann Cleary, in 1990.
She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; Mary Beth Fritz, Thomas F. Owens III, Edward Owens and his wife Kelley, Andrew, and Patrick Owens, Brian Cleary and his wife Shawna, Brenda Cleary-Williams and her husband Darren, Meghan, and Kenneth Cleary, Stephanie Hebb and her husband Douglas, Theresa Johnson and her husband Greg, 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Wolcott View Manor for their many years of attention and nursing as well as VITAS Hospice Care at St. Mary's Hospital for the care and support they gave to Irene. They would also like to thank Amy and Dawn for the love and time they shared with her.
Arrangements: Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 18, at 9:30 A.M. from the Bergin Funeral Home 290 East Main St. to Saints Peter and Paul Church for Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 A.M. Entombment will follow in Calvary Garden Mausoleum in the Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
