Jim was born April 28, 1930, in Waterbury, the son of the late Michael and Katherine (O'Sullivan) Killeen. He began working at Brookside Dairy as a driver, and went on to work as a diesel mechanic for several local construction and transportation companies, including Beebe Bus Company. Jim was proud to have been a mechanic for the Jack Beebe NASCAR race team.  He was also a member of the Middlebury Fire Department, and rose to the rank of Captain and served as Drill Master.

Jim was an avid outdoorsman, NASCAR and sports enthusiast, and environmentalist. He also loved photography, astronomy, and bird watching; but most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

Among his survivors are his four children, Kathleen A. Donorfio and her husband, Michael, of Watertown, CT; James J. Killeen, Jr., and his wife, Jacqui, of Coconut Creek, FL; Lisa M. Carey, and her husband, Christopher, of Southbury, CT; and Colleen A. Galushko, and her husband, Gary, of Wallingford, CT. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Sarah Carey, Isabella Galushko, Eleonora Galushko and Joshua Killeen.

He is also survived by his brother, Thomas A. Killeen, of Brookfield, CT, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Joseph C., Francis W., Michael B., and John V. Killeen, and one sister, Mary A. Fitzgerald.

The Killeen family would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Fitzhugh Pannill of Southbury Medical Associates, Dr. Michael Flanagan of Urology Associates, All About You Home Care Services, and the doctors and staff at VITAS Inpatient Hospice Unit at St. Mary's Hospital for all of the love and care provided to Jim and his family during his illness.
