Southbury – Mr. Joseph W. Sullivan, Sr., 76, passed away on Thursday, September 12. He was the husband of Alice A. (Jones) Sullivan. Joe was born September 3, 1948, in Waterbury, son of the late Francis T. and Margaret (Walsh) Sullivan. Raised in Waterbury he attended local schools and was a graduate of Crosby High School, class of 1966. In May 30, 1984, he was appointed a New Haven County Deputy Sheriff. He served in that capacity until 1999. An avid golfer and active member of the Waterbury Lodge of Elks B.P.O.E. #265. He was member of the Elks golf league for many years, a member of the House Committee for over 20 years, as well as having served as House Committee Chairman. As an Elk, Joe was involved in many activities and functions at the lodge. He was named the Elk of the Year for 2012-2013. In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by his children, Joseph W. Sullivan, Jr., of Burlington, Terri Sullivan of Pine Bush, NY, Colleen Sullivan of Maybrook, NY, and Scott Keeney and his wife Kristin of Newtown; his brothers, Francis J. Sullivan and his wife Margaret; and Raymond Sullivan and his wife, Margaret; his grandchildren, Jordan, Paul, Jenna, Jimmy, Giovanni, Thomas, James, Vaughn, Antonio, and Dashiell; two great grandchildren, Marilyn and Daniel; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert F. Sullivan and Thomas D. Sullivan. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, September 28 at 10:00 a.m., Sacred Heart Church, (Mid South Catholic Parish) 910 Main St. South in Southbury.
