Waterbury- Mr. Juan Torres, 90, died Saturday morning, October 27, at his home. He was the husband of the late Luz Divina Torres.
Mr. Torres was born October 22, 1922 in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico, son of the late Juan A. and Nicolaza (Quintana) Torres. Juan enjoyed gardening, watching wrestling and loved to talk about the old times in Puerto Rico where he had a barber shop and was involved in farming and construction.
He most especially enjoyed being a barber for his grandchildren. He was a member of Sacred Heart Sagrado Corazon Church and had retired from Waterbury Neckwear.
He is survived by his son, Juan A. Torres and his wife Doraida of Waterbury; three daughters, Aida Medina of Waterbury, Carmen Hernandez and her husband Jose of Waterbury and Olga Martinez and her husband Roberto of Prospect; one brother, Alcides Torres of Waterbury; one sister, Lina Portalatin of PR; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Yamile Hernandez and four brothers, Benjamin, Jorge, Ramon and Jose Torres.
The family would like to thank Reuben Moreno, Altagracia Garcia and the staffs of DaVita Dialysis, CCI, Utopia and Vitas Hospice for the care given to Mr. Torres.
Arrangements: A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, November 2, at 10:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Sagrado Corazon Church. Committal prayers and burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, November 1, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Bergin Funeral Home 290 East Main St. Waterbury.
