Obituary

Judith E. (Baker) Mellon, of Southington, formerly of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family.  She was the beloved wife of the late Atty. Robert E. Mellon.  Judith was the daughter of the late Frederick and Ila Mae (Wheeler) Baker.  She attended Wilby High School and enjoyed her employment as office manager for Dr. Frank Karlin in Waterbury for many years.
Judith was predeceased by her brothers, George and Robert, and a sister Lois Basquill, and is survived by her sister Ila Mae Johnson of Southington.  She is also survived by her daughter Mikki (Dwyer) Dupree and her husband Donnie, and her four grandchildren, Will, Aiden, Manny, and Cecilia.  Judy was cherished by family and friends, especially twelve nieces and nephews whom she referred to as the "Baker Dozen": George Baker and wife, Annie; Jody Baker and wife Marilyn, and son Adam; and Frederick Baker.  Additionally, Barbara Baker-Burrows and husband Russell, and children James and Sarah; Joanne (Baker) Ellsworthy and husband, Jim and children Christopher and Bobbi Jo; Robert Johnson and wife Jean and children Erik and Lindsay; Jeffrey Johnson and wife Karen, and children Brittany and Lauren; and Cindy Johnson. As well, Sharon (Basquill) Furtak and husband David, and children Donna and Sharon; Patricia (Basquill) Pickering, husband Tim and children Roxie, Nelson, and Liz; Edward Basquill and children Kevin and Edward; and Michael Basquill.
Judy was a beautiful lady, who inspired a zest for living in those who knew her.   She enjoyed exquisite taste, was always fashion forward and a trend setter.  In her day, Judy's passions included cooking a gourmet meal, interior decorating for friends, and joy rides with Bobby in their convertible yellow jag.  Judy had an endearing commitment to her family throughout her life. To all who knew her as "Auntie" whether relative or friend, Judy's quick wit, sensitivity, and generosity of spirit were indelible.  Conversations with Judy always elevated our game and her strength in adversity has been inspirational.   As confidante, mentor, sage advisor and family touchstone, Judy has provided us all with lasting memories and she will be deeply missed.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff on Units 5-2 and MICU at Yale New Haven Hospital, and staff at Waterbury Hospital for their exceptional care, kindness and compassion. Our deepest appreciation is also extended to Jody Baker for his love, commitment, and care for Judy throughout the years.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 8, at 10:00 A.M. from the Bergin Funeral 290 East Main St. Waterbury to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 A.M.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury.  Calling hours will be held on Thursday evening from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Community School 31 Wolcott St. P.O. Box 1746 Waterbury, CT 06721-1746
