Waterbury- Mrs. Katherine (Howard) Dowling, 89, died Friday, October 21, at Beacon Brook Health Center in Naugatuck with her family by her side. She was the widow of Thomas J. Dowling, Jr.
Mrs. Dowling was born December 12, 1921 in Waterbury daughter of the late John and Catherine (Sullivan) Howard. A lifelong resident of Waterbury, she was educated in local schools and was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School. She had attended Perry's School of Business and had been employed as a secretary at Hendricken School and retired as a secretary from the Wallace Middle School. She was a lifelong communicant of Sacred Heart Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Kathleen McCarthy and her husband John of Albany, NY, Susan Quarles and her husband Russ of Little Rock, AK and Deborah Mulhall and her husband Jim of Watertown; six grandchildren, Mary Kate Beswick and her husband Neal, Bridget McCarthy, John McCarthy, Jr, Special Agent Thomas R. Quarles, Dept. of Army, CID, James Mulhall and Caitlin Mulhall; two great grandchildren, Conor and Kerry Ann Beswick and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Donald, Raymond and Lewis and two sisters, Mary and Margaret.

Arrangements: Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 24, at 9:15 A.M. from the Bergin Funeral Home 290 East Main St. to Sacred Heart Church for mass of Christian burial at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow in Old St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
