Mrs. Marion (Guitson ) Yanavich, 84, of Pleasant St. died Saturday at St. Mary's Hospital. Marion was born June 2, 1923 in Duryea, PA to the late John and Isabelle (Bartuska) Guitson. Marion became a widow to Bernard Yanavich Sr. in 2006 after 63 years of marriage. She worked for many years at Waterbury Clock then moved on to working as seamstress at Lorazi Fashions in Waterbury Marion was a member of St. Josephs Church in Wtby, loved to watch her UCONN girls play, a master of jigsaw puzzles, an avid Yankee fan as well as a great mother to nine boys.
No one knew her as Marion or Mrs. Yanavich. She insisted on being called Mom. No matter what race, creed or color, if you came through her door, you were considered family and couldn't leave without a kiss and a hug and a smile on your face. To this day, old neighborhood friends, girlfriends and ex-wives still come to the house and visit their second Mom. She lived for her boys and had a way of making you seem special, even though you had to share her affection nine ways, including Dad. You would be hard pressed to find a more caring and giving person and this world is a better place for her having graced us with her presence. She will be sorely missed and forever loved.
She is survived by six sons; Richard, of Thomaston, Michael and Deborah of Willimantic, Chaz and Heidi of New Hartford, Donald of Waterbury, Ernest (Lenny) of Branford, Dennis and Cathy of Bristol; two brothers; Leonard and Robert Guitson of PA; a sister Agnes Burke of PA, nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Sadly she was predeceased by three sons, Bernard Jr., Peter and James.
