Waterbury – Mr. Martin F. Egan, III, 68, died on Monday evening, March 14, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was the husband of Dorothy "Bonnie" (Ryan) Egan.
Marty was born June 27, 1947 in Waterbury, son of the late Martin F. and Marie (Mitchell) Egan. On March 21, 1974 he was sworn in to serve on the Patrol Division of the Waterbury Police Department, on January 23, 1977 he was promoted to the Detective Bureau and worked for many years as an arson investigator out of the Fire Department Office until his retirement on February 27, 1999. He was an active member and former trustee of the Waterbury Lodge B.P.O. Elks # 265, was a member of the Franco – American Club and had served as President of the Thomaston Little League.
In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, Martin F. Egan IV and his wife Jo Ann of Terryville; one daughter, Shannon Richard and her husband Tom of Wallingford; two step-sons, John and Christopher Carroll and one step granddaughter, Katherine Carroll.
Arrangements: Calling hours will be held on Friday evening, March 18, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Bergin Funeral Home 290 East Main St. Waterbury. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Burial will be private.
