Waterbury – Mary A. Quinlan, 89, of Waterbury, passed away early Saturday morning, April 13, 2013 at Abbott Terrace Health Center in Waterbury.
Mary was born on July 22, 1923, the daughter of the late Michael J. and Mary (McGowan) Quinlan. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph, who died in childbirth.
She graduated from Waterbury Catholic High in 1941 and enrolled in several business courses during her long and varied career. She worked at Jones Morgan & Co. for 17 years. Mary also worked for SNET in Waterbury before serving in supervisory positions in New Haven for 27 years. Following he "retirement," she was employed by the Waterbury Court for a period of 14 years.
Mary was a member of the New Haven Business and Professionals women's Club and has been a longtime member of Quota International of New Haven and had the privilege of representing them at a conference in Sydney, Australia.
She is survived by several cousins who cherished her and by Mary Gordon Hutchinson, with whom she made her home. She also leaves, Walter K. Ahearn and family, Nancy Ahern Nori and her husband John and family, her Godchild, Susan Lyons Gilmore and family, Sister Marylou Lyons, CND, and Barry Lyons, Jane Fox Cooney, Bernadette Fox Gwiazdoski, James Fox, David Fox, and their spouses and families, all of whom will miss her quick wit and cheerful outgoing manner. She made friends wherever she went and never forgot a birthday, anniversary, or any other "special" occasion. She was fortunate to call so many people from all walks of life her friends, and they will miss her.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10:00 A.M, on Monday, April 15, at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 W. Main St., Waterbury. Friends are asked to meet directly at the Church. Burial will follow in Old St. Josephs Cemetery. Family and friends may call on April 14, from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M., at the Bergin Funeral Home, 290 E. Main St., Waterbury.
