Bartow, FL- Mrs. Mercedes Aviles, 85, formerly of Waterbury, died Wednesday, March 10, at the Good Shepherd Hospice at Palm Terrace. She was the wife of Gilberto Aviles, Sr.
Mrs. Aviles was born October 19, 1924 in Arroyo, Puerto Rico daughter of the late Antonio and Isabel (Cintron) Flores. She had worked at the Maloney School as a teachers aide and was a former member of Sacred Heart Sagrado Corazon Church. Mrs. Aviles and her husband, Gilberto, had moved to Bartow in January of 2009.
In addition to her husband of 53 years she is survived by four sons, Angel Cruz, Gilberto Aviles, Jr and his wife Lydia, Elac Aviles and his wife Jacqueline and Robert Aviles and his wife Kelly, all of Waterbury; one sister, Adelina Flores of Waterbury; nine grandchildren, Natalie, Anthony, Erica, Jasmine, Ashley, Nicole, Shealine, Brandon and Thomas; two great grandchildren, Fabian and Jett and many nephews and nieces.
Arrangements: A mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, March 17, at 9:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Sagrado Corazon Church. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
