Obituary

Waterbury – Mercedes R. "Dicey" Lewan, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 02, 2019 at Abbott Terrace. She was the widow of Mr. Stephen J. Lewan. Mercedes was born on July 7, 1926 in Old Town, ME., daughter of the late Israel and Anne Ayotte. Mercedes moved to Waterbury as an infant, went to St. Anne's School, Wilby High School and enjoyed working the Rubber Shop in Naugatuck. Mercedes loved roller skating at Hamilton Park which is where she met Stephen. Mercedes was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be truly missed by everyone that knew her. She is survived by two daughters, Mercey Spradling and her husband Ray, and Robin Lawlor and her husband Scott; four grandchildren, Stephanie, Nicole, Christina, and Shawna; six great-grandchildren, all boys; her sister, Jacqueline Lupkas and her husband Ray; and several nieces and nephews. The family deeply thanks the gentle caring staff and loving friends on Kingsbury. A Mass will be held on Monday, October 7, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at SS Peter and Paul Church (Mary, Mother of the Church Parish) 67 Southmayd Rd., Waterbury. Burial will be held privately.
