Obituary
Mildred Mary (Whiteman) McKay of Wolcott, CT passed away peacefully on October 6, 2016 at age 97. Mildred was born, on October 19, 1918 in Waterbury CT to Seth Whiteman and Loretta (Brewster) Whiteman. Mildred was predeceased by a brother Donald Whiteman and son Peter McKay and a grandson Seth Graham.
Mildred was an original graduate of the Notre Dame Academy in Waterbury, CT. She then graduated from the Immaculata College in Immaculata, PA with a B.S. degree in business and later earned an M.S. degree from Southern CT State University. With her staunch passion for education, Mildred went on to work as an educator for the Waterbury school system for 34 years.
Mildred leaves behind three children. A son David and wife Margery McKay, a daughter Janet & husband Bruce Graham, and a daughter Christine Werner. She also leaves eight grandchildren Alf McKay, Heather, Heidi, and Julie Graham, Jennifer and husband Eric Lynch, Matthew and wife Rebecca Werner, Michael Werner and fiancée Vinciane Buzenet, Rachel and husband David Gregory. She also leaves ten great-grandchildren. Bridget, Elizabeth, Lillian, Seth Jr., Hayley, Aliyah, and Dylan Graham, Aidan Lynch, Zachary and Aviya Werner. She also leaves one great great-grandchild Jeremiah Walton.
The family wishes to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff at Seasons Hospice Care, Middlebury and Wolcott View Manor for the care Mildred received while she was a resident.
There will be calling hours from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday October 14th at Bergin Funeral Home, 290 East Main Street, Waterbury. There will be a mass at 9:30 a.m. Saturday October 15th at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main Street, Waterbury, followed by the burial at Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to donate to Immaculata University, 1145 W. King Road, Immaculata, PA 19345.
