Waterbury – Nicolas Roque, 87, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 3, 2018 at his home. He was the loving husband of Zoila A. (Valerio) Roque. Nicolas was born on October 10, 1930 in Yaroa, Dominican Republic, son of the late Juan and Maria Del Carmen (Firpo) Roque. Nicolas enjoyed playing the guitar, singing, opera  and 1930's/40's music. He also enjoyed watching baseball, especially the New York Yankees and the Mets when the Yankees weren't playing, and watching boxing and soccer. He worked in Manhattan, New York City, as a professional Barber for the majority of his life. He began his journey in the United States in the 1960's, when he moved to Manhattan, where he owned his first barber shop. He worked at Cesar's Barber Shop, later worked at Antonio's Barber Shop and retired as a Veteran Barber at Franklin's Barber Shop. He was well-known and admired by the community of the upper West Side of Manhattan and will always be remembered as hard worker who devoted his life to his family and his trade. Besides his wife, Nicolas is survived by five children, Ramon and Jose Roque, Gladys Estrada, Miguelina Feliciano, and Cynthia Roque, MD; five siblings, Santiago, Isabelle, Manuel, Carmen, and Blanca; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and relatives in the Dominican Republic, New York, New Jersey and across the U.S.  He was predeceased by five siblings, Aurora, Sofia, Tobias, Juanito, and Felix. Family and friends may call on Monday, August 6, 2018 from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. at the Bergin Funeral Home, 290 East Main St., Waterbury, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 7 at 10:00 A.M. at the Shrine of St. Anne Church, 515 South Main St. Prayers of committal will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
