Obituary

Patrick S. Bergin, 70, of 154 Buckingham St., husband of Maureen (Hopkins) Bergin, died Wednesday, February 22nd, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born March 30, 1941, son of the late former Mayor Edward D. and Mary (Jones) Bergin Sr.

In addition to his wife, he leaves one son, Edward D. Bergin III and his wife Shirley of Wilton, two daughters Maureen (Molly) Perkins of Waterbury and Sarah Bergin of Alexandria, VA. Three brothers, former Mayor Edward D. Bergin Jr. and his wife Joanne of Waterbury, William J. Bergin Sr. and his wife Claudia of Southbury, Martin J. Bergin and his wife Julie of Greensboro, NC. Three sisters, Ellyn Scully and her husband William of Waterbury, Margaret O'Connor and Elizabeth L. Bergin of New York, NY. Four grandsons, Finnegan Bergin, Addison Bergin, Michael Perkins and Matthew Perkins and two sisters-in-law, Maureen Bergin and Ellen Bergin of Waterbury and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Julia Eileen Bergin, his brothers Anthony P. Bergin and John M. Bergin and his brother-in-law Robert J. O'Connor.

He was a graduate of the Sacred Heart High School, Class of 1959, and served as it's president, actively organizing holiday functions and ongoing class reunions for the last 50 years He received his Bachelor Degree from Saint Michael's College, Winooski, VT. He was a graduate of Cincinnatti College of Mortuary Science and was employed at Bergin Funeral Home for many years.

In 1973, he purchased Reiner Products Ltd. a manufacturing company of salt and pepper shakers, and moved the company to Waterbury. He owned and operated the company until his death. He was a communicant of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.

He was a member and Past Grand Knight of the Sheridan Council #24 of the Knights of Columbus, and the 4th Degree, Bishop O'Rielly Assembly of the Knights of Columbus.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception for a funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in New St. Joseph's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Bergin Funeral Home, 290 East Main Street, Friday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Contributions may be made to Saint Mary's Grammar School, 43 Cole Street, Waterbury, CT 06706, or to Sacred Heart High School, 142 South Elm Street, Waterbury, CT 06706.
