Waterbury- Mr. Raymond J. Crane, Jr, 68, died Tuesday evening, August 31, at his home with his family at his side.
Mr. Crane was born January 25, 1942 in Waterbury son of the late Raymond J. and Dorothea (Belury) Crane, Sr. Raised in Waterbury Ray was a graduate of Crosby High School class of 1959 and graduated from Northeastern University in Boston, MA. From 1965 until 1967 he resided in Honolulu, Hawaii while serving honorably in the United States Army. After leaving the military, he returned to Connecticut and started his career in sales with Uniroyal, followed by Jason Industrial and then the Gates Corporation. After leaving Gates, he along with two partners started the Waterbury Industrial Supply Company. He retired in 1999.
Active in the community, he was a member of the Middlebury Lions Club and the Middlebury Rotary Club and served on the Board of Directors of the Waterbury Cerebral Palsy Foundation.
Ray was a great cook, gardener, and a jack of all trades. He enjoyed spending weekends on the Cape and Islands with family and friends. Loved by many, Ray will always be remembered as a kind and gentle man.
He is survived by one daughter, Larissa D. Crane of Boston, MA; two sons, Mark L. Crane and his wife Colleen of Woodbridge and Nicholas A. Crane of Bridgeport; his grandchildren, Connor age 12, Eliza age 10 and Colby age 3; his sister Judith Kenney resides in Marco Island, FL.
Arrangements: Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 3, at 9:30 A.M. from the Bergin Funeral Home 290 East Main St. to Blessed Sacrament Church for mass of Christian burial at 10:30 A.M. Burial will be private in the Riverside Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home this evening (Thursday) from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
