Middlebury- Mr. Richard F. "Spike" McCarroll, 80, died peacefully on Thursday, September 8, at his summer home in Milford, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Bernice (Lenkowski) McCarroll.
Son of the late Harold L. and Catherine (Mancini) McCarroll, Richard was born on December 22, 1930 in Waterbury. He had attended the Cheshire Academy and was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School. He then attended St. Bonaventure University in New York and the University of Connecticut until being drafted by United States Army. He retired as a computer programmer from the City of Waterbury.
As president of the Middlebury Little League and the Youth Basketball League, Richard was instrumental in the building of the Timex Baseball Field, Babe Ruth Division. He was a communicant of St. John of the Cross Church. Richard loved jazz, cribbage, bridge and spending time at the beach. He especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren and family. Richard will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his son, Douglas McCarroll of Middlebury; his daughter, Suzanne Flores of Middlebury; four grandsons and one granddaughter. He was predeceased by his brother Thomas.
Arrangements: Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 17, at 9:15 A.M. at Bergin Funeral Home 290 East Main St., Waterbury. Mass will follow at 10:00 A.M. at St. John of the Cross Church, with burial at Lake Elise Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday, September 16, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
