Waterbury- Mr. Robert F. Bernier, 89, died Monday morning, August 25, at Aurora of Bucks Hill. He was the husband of the late Florence W. (Kalpin) Bernier.
Mr. Bernier was born April 10, 1925 in Waterbury, son of the late Wilfred and Juliet (Ward) Bernier. Raised in Waterbury he was a graduate of St. Anne's Grammar School and Crosby High School class of 1943. He had been employed for many years at the Waterbury Companies as a production control supervisor. He had served honorably in the United States Army.
An active parishioner at the Shrine of St. Anne he was instrumental in bringing Bingo to the church as a fundraiser and was past president of the Holy Name Society. He was member and past commander of the American Legion Post 165 in Wolcott and was honored as French Mayor for the Day on June 24, 1999. He had served the City of Waterbury on the Board of Welfare for many years.
He is survived by two sons, Robert T. Bernier of West Haven and Kenneth W. Bernier and his wife Christine of Braintree, MA; one daughter, Audrey Kima and her husband William of Thomaston; one sister, Elaine Graveline of Prospect; his daughter-in-law, Diane Bernier of Wolcott; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Ronald C. Bernier, his brother, Donald Bernier and his sister, Mary Jane Morrissey.
Arrangements: A calling hour will be held on Wednesday morning, August 27, from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. followed by mass at the Shrine of St. Anne at 10:30 A.M. Burial with military honors will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery.
