Middlebury- Mrs. Sheila Mary (O'Reilly) Murray, 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the Vitas Innovative Hospice Unit at St. Mary's Hospital. She was the wife of Retired Battalion Chief, Thomas F. Murray, Sr. of the Waterbury Fire Department.
Sheila was born April 16, 1942 in Waterbury, daughter of the late James J. and Cecilia (Lapman) O'Reilly. Raised in Waterbury, she was a graduate of Russell Grammar School, Crosby High School class of 1960 and the Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing. Her nursing career included 20 years as a private duty nurse at Waterbury Hospital, served as Nursing Director at Torrington Extended Care and had retired from the Watertown Convalarium in 2013. Sheila was very active over the years at Blessed Sacrament Church and School. Sheila enjoyed vacationing with her husband and family, and recently celebrated their 50th anniversary with a trip to Ireland.
In addition to her husband of 50 years, she is survived by one son, Dr. Thomas F. Murray, Jr and his wife Lisa of Falmouth, ME; one daughter, Tara Murray Van Duzer and her husband Christopher of Naugatuck; one sister, Carol Readel White of Waterbury; three grandchildren, Kiera Murray and Kendra Murray, both of Falmouth, ME and Stephanie Mary Kate Van Duzer of Naugatuck; three step grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements: Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 19, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Bergin Funeral Home 290 East Main St. Waterbury. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, March 20, at 10:00 A.M. at Blessed Sacrament Church 182 Robbins St. Waterbury. Friends are asked to meet directly at church. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery in Thomaston.
