Southbury- Mrs. Tekla Charlotta (Svensson) Johnson, 102, passed way peacefully on Thursday morning, March 31 at the Lutheran Home where she has resided and received wonderful care for the last four years. She was the loving wife of the late David Mattias Johnson. After being widowed she was the companion of the late Germaine Sylvestre.
Tekla was born on September 20, 1908 in Burseryd, Smaland, Sweden, coming to America at age 16. She was a great cook, baker and homemaker. She was active at the Trinity Lutheran Church in White Plains, New York where she was married in 1929. Her daughter, Ingrid, was married there also in 1954. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She liked to bake cookies and sit and walk outside. She loved being with and talking to her family.
She is survived by her daughter Ingrid Tekla Linnea (Johnson) Martland and her husband Dr. Theodore H. Martland; her grandchildren Theodore D. Martland and his wife Catherine, Matthew T. Martland and his wife Nancy and Lisbet M. Morris and her husband Stephen J.; her eight great grandchildren Kerin and her husband Matthew Griswould, Jennifer and her fiancé Tom Behrens, Theodore W. Martland, Lisa, David and Dylan Martland, Trevor Morris and his fiancé Lynn and Linnea Morris.
