Waterbury- Mr. Theron O. "Neil" Johnson, Sr., died Sunday morning, July 29, at the Village Green of Waterbury surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Lois (Pilitowski) Johnson.
He was born October 19, 1938 in Dothan, Alabama, son of the late Otis and Callie (Deal) Johnson. He was a graduate of Crosby High School and attended the University of Connecticut. He proudly served in the United States Air Force for over four years. He was a communicant of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and was a member of the Naugatuck Lodge of Elks # 967 and had served as head of the house of committee.
Neil retired from Hamilton Standard with over thirty years in the aerospace program. He was a project engineer on the guidance system for the space shuttle, for which he received numerous awards. He enjoyed playing golf and cribbage and particularly enjoyed attending all of his grandchildren's baseball, soccer, football and karate events.
In addition to his wife of 50 years he is survived by his two daughters, Lauren Jacquart and her husband Kendall and Thea Hoyt; his one son, Theron Johnson, Jr and his wife Mary; five grandchildren, Theron III, Christian, Veronica, Zachary and Callie; two step grandchildren, Amy and Melissa and one step great grandson, Caden; his brother-in-law, Donald Pilitowski and his wife Betty; his sister-in-law, Patricia Mercier and her husband Frank and many nieces, nephews and loving friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Sandy Simons.
Arrangements: A mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, August 1, at 10:00 A.M. at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Full military honors will follow mass outside of the Basilica. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 31, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Bergin Funeral Home 290 East Main St. Waterbury.
