Waterbury- Mrs. Virgenmina (Negron) "Nina" Santiago, 84, died Wednesday evening at the Vitas Hospice at St. Mary's Hospital with her family by her side. She was the widow of Rogelio Santiago, Sr.
Mrs. Santiago was born August 13, 1927 in Villalba, Puerto Rico, daughter of the late Domingo and Juana (Rivera) Negron. She moved to Waterbury with her family in September of 1968. She was a communicant of the former St. Cecelia's Church and received the Mother of the Year Award from the Spanish Coalition in May of 2003.
She is survived by four sons, Raul Santiago and his wife Genevieve of Waterbury, Luis Santiago and his wife Rochelle of Portland, OR, Alberto Santiago and his wife Diane of Waterbury and Rogelio Santiago, Jr of Waterbury; two daughters, Mirta Fernandez and her husband Angel Luis of Waterbury and Madeline Santiago of Waterbury; one sister, Julia Negron of NY; one sister-in-law, Margarita Negron of NY; ten grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one son, Miguel Santiago; one daughter, Carmen Negron and two brothers, Angel and Luis Negron.
Arrangements: A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, December 17, at 10:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Sagrado Corazon Church. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Calling hours are today at the Bergin Funeral Home 290 East Main St. from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
