Wilfred "Fred" Cruz Jr., 64, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2025. Born in Brooklyn, New York on May 27, 1961, Fred was the beloved son of Wilfredo Cruz Sr. and Ramona Benejam. Fred dedicated many years of his career as a Quality Control Inspector at Pratt & Whitney, he was an avid sports fan who loved watching football and baseball especially cheering for his favorite teams, the New York Jets and the New York Mets. He was also a lifelong Star Wars enthusiast. Above all, Fred found his greatest joy in caring for and spending time with his family, who will miss him deeply. He is survived by his loving wife, Mayra Cruz; his children, Wilfredo A. Cruz, Mayra Alejandra Cruz, and Giovanni Cruz; his siblings, William Cruz, David Cruz, and Vivian Cruz; and his cherished grandchildren, Alfonso, Amaya, Ameir, and Luna. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Bergin Funeral Home, 290 East Main Street, Waterbury, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. The family requests that guests wear white or bright colored clothing in celebration of the love and light that Fred brought to all who knew him.
