Naples, FL & Waterbury- Mr. William F. "Pop" Doyle, 86, died Wednesday, February 11 at Avow Hospice in Naples, FL. He was the husband of Mary (Harvey) Doyle.
Mr. Doyle was born April 23, 1922 in Waterbury son of the late Clarence and Julia (Lynch) Doyle. Raised in Waterbury he attended local schools and was a graduate of Crosby High School, Iona College in New Rochelle, NY and Fairfield University. He was a teacher at Watertown High School and Waterbury High Schools, retiring from Wilby High School. He had served honorably in the United States Navy during WWII.
Mr. Doyle had played baseball in the City amateur baseball league and went on to play minor league ball in the New York Yankee's organization. After his playing days he remained active in baseball by coaching for many years at the high school and American Legion levels.
He was a member of the Waterbury Retired Teacher's Assoc., he was a communicant of St. Williams Church in Naples and the Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his wife of 49 years, he is survived by two sons, William E. Doyle and his wife Susan of Fairfield and Edward A. Doyle and his wife Leanne of S. Orange, NJ; one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Malolepszy and her husband John of North Andover, MA; one sister, Eileen Doyle Jackson of Vernon; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Edward, Donald, Robert and Clarence Doyle and one sister, Barbara Doyle.
Arrangements: Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 16 at 9:45 A.M. from the Bergin Funeral Home 290 East Main St. to Blessed Sacrament Church for mass of Christian burial at 10:30 A.M.
