Our deepest condolences to the family of Cynthia Steponaitis. The loss of a loved one in death has to be the most painful experience. All of us have experienced that pain. How can we receive comfort during these times? Surely drawing close to God can help .
He is spoken of as the "Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort".
Since death separates us from Those we love so much it is comforting to know that God purposes to reunite us with our loved ones. You might wonder how? By means of a resurrection. To reassure us God has recorded some (9) resurrections in the Bible.
One such resurrection involved Jesus' dear friend Lazarus. The account is found in the Gospel by John. Lazarus had been dead for four days and as imagined his sisters were overwhelmed with grief. Jesus went to visit and to offer comfort since Lazarus and his sisters were dear friends of his. No one present imagined that Jesus would perform the miracle that they would witness on that occasion. Jesus asked that the large stone be removed from the entrance of the tomb where Lazarus had been laid. Then he cried out with a commanding voice for Lazarus to come out. And miracles of miracles! Lazarus walked out of the tomb and into the waiting arms of his sisters. We tell this story to say this, We have every reason to believe that in his limitless memory the creator of life will fulfill his promise to resurrect both righteous and unrighteous persons. The account we referred to is found in the Gospel of John chapter 11 and verses 38- 44. May you draw comfort from reading it.
