James D. Szynkiewicz, 91, passed away on Sunday, May 10, at his home. He was the husband of the late Djamila (Hertzog) Szynkiewicz.

He was born October 18, 1928 in Wilno, Poland, son of the late Jacob and Lydia (Talkowski) Szynkiewicz. Before immigrating to the United States, he resided for many years in Cairo, Egypt where he completed his education and in Germany. He was a longtime resident of Waterbury.

Mr. Szynkiewicz worked for a number of years at T. Sendzimir, Inc. in Waterbury as a design engineer and patent specialist, followed by work at the Farrel Co. in Ansonia as a standards engineer and at Sikorsky Aircraft in Shelton in the same capacity. He retired from Sikorsky in 1994. He enjoyed hiking, study of history and writing; for many years he wrote the “In Synk” column In the Waterbury Observer.

He is survived by his daughter, Andrea Linda Szynkiewicz of Goleta, CA and his son, Timur Jason Szynkiewicz of Syracuse, NY.

James (Jim) was a wonderful husband and father. He was devoted to his family. He was a good neighbor and a kind, supportive friend to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.

Burial will be private. There are no calling hours.
