Middlebury – Mr. John J. Dowling, 95, formerly of Huntington, passed away on Friday morning, February 17, at the Middlebury Convalescent Home. He was the husband of the late Jane (Holmes) Dowling for 55 years.
John was born December 15, 1927 in Waterbury, son of the late Edward and Georgiana Dowling. Raised in Waterbury, he attended local schools and was a graduate of Leavenworth High School and received his degree in accounting from Bentley University in Waltham, MA. He had been employed as an accountant at General Electric Corporation and Norwalk Hospital, before going onto a 25-year career with Emson Research in Bridgeport as its Chief Financial Officer, retiring in 1992. He was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church in Shelton.
He will be remembered for his love of music, sports, history, reading, travel, and sweets, but most of all for his love and devotion to his wife, sons, grandchildren, and his large extended family.
He is survived by two sons, John H. Dowling and his wife Lisa of Southbury, and Mark J. Dowling and his wife Susan of Newtown; his grandchildren, Christian, Caitlin, Mark and Sarah and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, George E. Dowling; his granddaughter, Meghan Dowling; his sister, Katherine Dowling and his brother, Edward Dowling.
John’s family would like to thank the amazing staff of Middlebury Convalescent Home for the loving care given to their father.
Family and friends may visit with John’s family on Thursday morning, February 23, from 9:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at the Bergin Funeral Home 290 East Main St. Waterbury. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00 A.M. at St. Francis Xavier Church in Waterbury. Burial will be held in the Calvary Cemetery.
