Waterbury – Mrs. Lelia Jane (Alderson) Schuster, 86, formerly of Middlebury, passed away on Saturday morning, April 27, at Waterbury Hospital after a brief illness. She was the widow of George A. Schuster.
Lelia Jane was born in Waterbury on February 5, 1933, daughter of the late Idris R. and Lelia (Scott) Alderson. Raised in Naugatuck she attended local schools and was a graduate of Naugatuck High School. She attended Edgewood School, training as a medical assistant and then graduated from the University of Bridgeport where she studied as a dental hygienist. She received her BA degree in accounting from Post University.
She had been a member of the Holy Cross Mother’s Club and a former member of the Middlebury Congregational Church, where she and her late husband George had been active members for many years.
She loved art and design and spent hours working on projects. She loved to travel and had an opportunity to see many beautiful locations across the United States and Europe, and her favorite place out of them all was Block Island, RI, a place filled with fond memories of family vacations. She was a devoted grandmother who loved her grandchildren and attending their numerous sporting events. She was a loyal fan seen most often intensely watching and cheering on the entire team. She was known to so many as Grandma Lee.
She is survived by her son, George A. “Jay” Schuster and his wife Donna of Methuen, MA; her daughter, Jane Marie Conti and her husband Chris of Woodbury and two grandchildren, Benjamin and Samantha Conti. She was predeceased by her son, Robert Scott Schuster and her brother, Richard I. Alderson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 3, at 12:00 P.M. at the Middlebury Congregational Church, 1242 Whittemore Rd. Calling hours will be held Friday morning from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the Bergin Funeral Home 290 East Main St. Waterbury. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery.
