Luis E. Sencion

Waterbury - Mr. Luis E. Sencion, 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by his beloved wife and family on Saturday, June 2, 2018. Luis was born on June 29, 1931 in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic son of the late Marco Sencion and Bernardina Ureña.

Luis served in the Dominican Republic military achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He also served on the Palace Guard detail at the Presidential Palace. His love for baseball led him to play for one of the national baseball teams in Santo Domingo, DR.

Luis immigrated to New York City in the mid-60’s eventually settling in Waterbury in 1971 with his beloved wife, Julia to raise a family. His love of the United States eventually led to his naturalization as a US Citizen in the 1980s.

Luis was a devout family man who wanted a better life for his siblings in the Dominican Republic. He sponsored the immigration of nine brothers and sisters to the United States in the 1980s and 1990s.

He is survived by his children, Luis Silva of Decatur, AL, Julio Sencion of Waterbury, and step daughter Guadalupe Rivas of Fort Lee, NJ. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and god children.

Mr. Sencion’s wake will be at the Bergin Funeral Home, 290 East Main St. Waterbury, CT on Thursday, June 7 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A celebration of life will be the following morning at All Saints / Todos los Santos Parish, the Shrine of St. Anne Church, 515 South Main St, Waterbury, with a Funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
