Mrs Luz Maria Rivera

Waterbury – Mrs. Luz Maria Rivera, 84, passed away on November 14, 2019, at the Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford.

Luz was born December 25, 1934 in Utuado, Puerto Rico, daughter of the late Fernando and Evangelista Gerena Vazquez.

Luz was known for her energetic, sociable personality, had a huge sense of humor and enjoyed being a prankster. She took pleasure listening to music, dancing, cooking, spending time with her grandchildren. She will be remembered for being caring and having a big heart willing to give of herself to help others.

She is survived by her daughters, Luz Castellano and her husband Anibal of FL and Margarita Segarra of Waterbury; three brothers, Ruben, Jacob and Salvador Vazquez, all of Waterbury; three sisters, Hortencia Torres of PA, and Herminia Vazquez and Ivania Ramirez, both of Puerto Rico; two grandsons, Anibal Jr and Angel nine great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Jeannette Silva and her son-in-law, Israel Segarra.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday morning, November 23, from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the Bergin Funeral Home 290 East Main St. Burial will follow immediately after in the New Pine Grove Cemetery.
