Waterbury – Mr. Michael J. Maunsell, 81, passed away on Wednesday morning, July 26, at his home with his family by his side. He was the husband of Eleanore A. “Jill” (Murphy) Maunsell.
Mike was born March 25, 1942 in Waterbury, son of the late Michael and Mary (Kearney) Maunsell. Raised in Waterbury he attended local schools and was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, class of 1960. He then went on to Fairfield University and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. Upon graduation Mike was drafted and served honorably in the United States Army 101st Airborne as a 2nd Lieutenant Platoon leader in Vietnam. Following his discharge from the Army Mike went on to over fifty years serving the Greater Waterbury Area as a CPA and was also the founder of Action Payroll Services.
In addition to his wife, Mike leaves his children, Paige Gomes and her husband George of Waterbury, Michael K. Maunsell and his wife Diana of Oxford and David J. Maunsell and his wife Bobbi of Durham, ME; one sister, Kathleen Shea of Seymour; eight grandchildren, George, Katherine, Benjamin, Michael, Samuel, Lili, Logan and Quinn and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Patricia Caron.
The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Kelly, Dr. Sarah Goldberg, the staff of Hartford Hospice and the VA of CT for the care and support given to Mike and his family.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 28, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Bergin Funeral Home 290 East Main St. Waterbury. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday morning at 10:00 A.M. at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Military honors will follow Mass. Burial will be private.
